Here’s why WhatsApp was removed from the Windows Phone Store

Whatsapp

Last month, WhatsApp mysteriously disappeared from the Windows Phone Store, without any reason. Later, it was revealed that there are some problems with the notifications, but we didn’t exactly know what it was, before it made its way back to the Windows Phone Store.

Recently, the folks at BGR India interviewed Microsoft’s Windows Phone guy, Joe Belfiore. They asked Belfiore many interesting questions, and one of them was about what happened with WhatsApp. Which problem existed that made the developers pull it from the store. Well, he made it quite clear now. He said there were some issues with WhatsApp notification, when a user restricts background data use in conjunction with Data Sense in the latest update. This means when there’s no data connection, you’ll not get WhatsApp notifications if those settings are enabled.

Here’s what Joe Belfiore had to say, “So what happened is that they discovered on our latest update there is a relatively obscure end user setting where users could restrict background data use in conjunction with Data Sense. What happens is if you enable that, you won’t receive WhatsApp messages and you don’t get notified. So they came to us and said that they want their users to have the awareness of that. So we have been working with them on a fix, and I believe they are already testing the fix on beta and I believe they will be deploying it back into the world soon.”

Now, the app is back in the store with several new features on board. Belfiore said they are still testing the fix for this issue in the beta version, and it will be released very soon. What do you have to say about this? Sound off in the comments below.
