Microsoft are finally starting to talk about sales of their partners’ Windows Phone 7 devices. According to a Q&A at Microsoft Presspass, Achim Berg, Microsoft’s vice president of business and marketing for Windows Phones, mentioned the following:
- Another is phone manufacturer sales – phones being bought and stocked by mobile operators and retailers on their way to customers. We are pleased that phone manufacturers sold over 1.5 million phones in the first six weeks, which helps build customer momentum and retail presence.
As Mary Jo Foley points out, these are the number of sales of Windows Phones 7 devices to the actual carriers, not from the carriers to their customers. Nevertheless, it appears that Microsoft are off to a healthy start with their new platform.
