The Windows Phone Store is home to over 250,000 apps worldwide. Let’s take a look at the Windows Phone Store and see which apps are at the top of the charts when it comes to the free, paid, and trending categories. You might even discover your new favorite app!
Currently in the Windows Phone Store, the top-five free apps in the United States are OneDrive, Facebook, Pandora, Nokia Cinemagraph, Instagram Beta. The top-five paid apps in the Windows Phone Store are Movie Maker 8.1, Start Perfect, Melodia, MetroTube, and Pocket Explorer. The top-five trending apps are Slowly, Quick Launcher, Alaska Airlines, Theme+, and PhoneGap Developer.
Let’s take a look at some of these apps, and highlight some new apps in today’s post.
Momentum ($0.99) – “In Momentum the player visits the abstract world inside his own Windows Phone device with the goal of eradicating the vile creatures stealing his phone’s battery. Through the power of the accelerometer, the player is able to control the gravity in this world, and through the power of the screen, the player is able to interact directly with its environment,” the app description reads.
This game features advanced 2D physics achieved through Farseer Physics Engine and allows you to control the world’s gravity using your device’s accelerometer. Momentum is a puzzle game and you must past all the 30 levels. Take a look at the promo video showcasing the game in action in the video above.
NetScan (free) – NetScan is a free networking tools app that features Wan IP address discovery functionality, along with port scan, TCP ping, Phone network interfaces information, traceroutes, whois, DNS lookup, and much more. This is a fantastic app for your Windows Phone device.
Start Perfect ($0.99) – Transparent tiles and Start Screen customization is all the rage these days, especially since Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview enabled this functionality. With Start Perfect, you can create transparent tiles for system settings and websites, as well as make invisible blank tiles to show off your Start Screen background.
“Start Perfect has the tools you need to create custom backgrounds using any solid color, a gradient, or a custom polyfill. And if for a more personal touch, Start Perfect lets you choose one of your photos and tint it any color,” the app description reads. This app comes packed with features, so its definitely worth checking out if you love customization.
Melodia ($0.99) – “With Windows Phone 8.1 you can finally set a Ringtone as notification sound for each app. This app will let you choose between ‘official’ app alerts sound and more! Thanks to you all, Now Melodia is available in German, Russian, Spanish, French, Portoguese, Simple Chinese/Traditional Chinese, Turkish, and Italian,” the app description reads.
This is a very simple app that simply lets you set a ringtone as a notification sound for each app. It includes support for many top apps including Facebook, Skype, WhatsApp, and more.
Slowly (free) – this is the first slowmotion app in the Windows Phone Store. You can edit your clips and add slow motion effect in your favorite positions. You can add multiple slow motion regions and change the slowness of every region of the clip.
The developer has released 1.1.0.13 of his app as of May 5th, and plans to add more slow motion options in future updates to the app.
