Messaging with LinkedIn can be intimidating but with the company’s announcement today, connecting should be much easier. This is thanks to the Conversation Starters, a new feature available through LinkedIn’s Messaging system.
Once a user starts a new conversation, they can simply click/tap on the light bulb icon to swipe through a list of personalized starter topics. Types of conversation starters include:
- Updates on your connections’ professional activity. Congratulate your connection if they’ve started a new job or celebrated a work anniversary recently. You can also share your thoughts on an article they’ve recently published on LinkedIn.
- Shared experiences. Connect on something you have in common, such as having worked at the same company, joined the same groups, or gone to the same school.
- Shared connections. Build rapport by mentioning someone who you both know.
It’s a rather simple addition to messaging but can open up a lot of opportunities. Check out the above video released today from LinkedIn showing the Conversation Starters in action.
