Battlefield 2042 video game launch delayed due to the pandemic – onmsft.com

The upcoming Battlefield 2042 video game has had its launch delayed until November 19th this year. The latest entry in the long-running Battlefield franchise was officially revealed back in June and was originally set for release on October 22nd.

The announcement of the delay was made earlier today via the official Battlefield Twitter account.

“Building the next generation of Battlefield during a pandemic has created unforeseen challenges for our development teams,” the tweet reads. “Given the scale and scope of the game, we had hoped our teams would be back in our studios together as we move towards launch. With the ongoing conditions not allowing that to happen safely, and with all the hard work our teams are doing from home, we feel it is important to take the extra time to deliver on the vision of Battlefield 2042 for our players.”

A brief mention of the game’s open beta is also made in the tweet with more information on it promised to come later this month.

The delay of Battlefield 2042’s launch doesn’t come as too much of a surprise as the entire games industry has seen a plethora of similar delays over the last year and a half due to rising case numbers around the globe and the recent emergence of variants which have set back the return to normal even more than it already had been with the initial Covid strains.

When all’s said and done though, a delay of a single month isn’t that long at all and it actually pushes Battlefield’s launch further into the Christmas holiday season which may even turn out to be in the game’s favor.

Battlefield 2042 will launch on both of Microsoft’s Xbox One and Xbox Series X console families with separate version for each generation.
