Ballmer made an appearance at the Nokia Windows Phone 8 event earlier today, and made a bold prediction saying that over 400 million devices will be running Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 within a year from now. Exciting stuff, but will Windows 8 really grow that fast?
Steve Ballmer, CEO at Microsoft thinks that within a year from now, over 400 million devices, whether they are phones, PC’s, tablets and laptops, will be running Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8. That’s one large number, and if true would prove many wrong about the release of the new Windows.
Ballmer also said that he expects “the next app developer to hit it really really big, will be a developer on Windows.” This is also a bold prediction, as many developers use iOS and Android to develop the best mobile games. Looking at it though, it seems Windows 8 would be a great platform to develop games as it has integration with Xbox LIVE, one the most popular gaming platform in the world.
Of course, unless Ballmer has a time machine, we can’t be certain on how Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 will do when it launches, some expect Windows 8 to be the next Vista, others expect it to be like XP, no one knows as of yet.
