In time with the season, Skype is joining in on the holiday spirit with an announcement of several holiday-friendly upgrades to Skype on desktops, iOS, Android and on the web, masking as a guide to using Skype to connect with loved ones.
Skype users on supported platforms can now add flying snowflakes to a video message, to turn their cheerful visages into a personalized moving holiday card that can be shared through Skype, Facebook and other social networks, or email.
Video messaging itself has also been given an update, adding group sending functionality. The HD, 720p holiday video card you just made can now be sent to multiple loved ones at once. High resolution recording is restricted to mobile platforms.
The arguably best addition, however, is a new set of seasonally appropriate emojis. both from famous TV shows and movies, and original by Skype.
Last but not least, a new, simple way to send Skype Credit has been introduced, complete with original virtual gift card design, suggested by the Skype team as a great last-minute gift for loved ones to show “how much you love staying in touch.” The process is a minimal 3 steps, which you can start by logging into the Skype Send Credit page.
