Having been available for a little over three months now, Microsoft’s latest operating system has already surpassed 120 million installs worldwide. According to new statistics from NetApplications, Windows 10 continues to increase in market share, but Windows 7 remains the most popular operating system.
For the month of October 2015, Windows 10 climbed in market share to 7.94 percent. Windows 10 has been seeing a steady increase in market share since its release in late July — going up a little over one percent every month.
Windows 7 remains the most popular operating system with a share of 55.71 percent, slowly dropping in share as each month passes by. Windows XP remains the second most popular operating system with a share of 11.68 percent, which is the first time in three months that Windows XP has seen a decline in market share. From July to September, Windows XP was actually climbing in market share. In October, Windows XP dropped by 0.53 percent.
Windows 8.1 rounds out the top three with a market share of 10.68 percent, having dropped just a tad bit from the previous month. Since July, Windows 8.1 has dropped close to three percent in market share.
Microsoft is really pushing to have at least one billion installs of Windows 10 within the next three years. Let’s see if they can make this happen.
