If you are an avid Microsoft Edge user, Microsoft has a neat treat in store for you. Add-ons play a crucial role and enhance how we interact with the web by adding new features and functionality.

The Edge add-ons store catalog is currently edging towards 11,000 add-ons and is expected to continue growing. While this is an incredible feat, it poses a potential issue as it creates “more hustle and competition for extensions discoverability in the marketplace.”

To mitigate this issue, Microsoft has announced that it will be introducing badges to its Edge Add-ons Store. With the rise of phishing attacks, the badges will allow users to download extensions without any reservations.

According to Microsoft:

We are planning to introduce extensions badging on EAS which will encourage developers to build extensions, keeping our best practices in mind. Leading to edge extension users getting the ease to differentiate and discover these quality extensions on EAS.

The company is set to start testing out this new feature soon and has further indicated that it intends to build it alongside its dev community. This will go a long way and help familiarize the community with the badging process.

In other related news, Microsoft rolled out Bing Chat to Bing and Edge Mobile apps in preview. Per the company’s findings, 64% of searches occur on mobile phones. This addition will bring the AI-powered copilot for the web experience to your fingertips while on the go.
