If your PC is still running the Windows 10 version 20H2 update, better known as the October 2020 Update, it is time to upgrade! Today, May 10, marks the end of service for this version of Windows, as explained by Microsoft (via Neowin.)
With this version of Windows 10 hitting the end of service, this means that Microsoft will no longer provide security updates. Microsoft also won’t offer you support on this version of Windows either and will let you know what you need to update your PC to the latest version of Windows in order to stay supported. Such end of service also means that your PC will be vulnerable to security threats if you keep using Windows 10 version 20H2 in the current state.
Note that end of service applies to the Home, Pro, Education, and Pro for Workstations flavors of Windows 10 version 20H2. The other versions of Windows 10 version 20H2, like Enterprise, Education, and IOT Enterprise, still have a year of support left until May 9, 2023.
You can head to Windows Update on your PC and check for updates to get the latest version of Windows 10, the Windows 10 version 21H2 update, to ensure your PC is still secure. Windows 10 Version 20H2 was first released back in October of 2020. Microsoft has been warning users with this version of the OS for some time that this end of service date was approaching. The update was a fairly minor one, with an updated Start Menu design, and tweaks to the tablet mode. It also delivered the new Microsoft Edge to everyone.
The most current version of Windows 10 is Windows 10 version 21H2. This update isn’t as huge, and mainly brings tweaks for IT admins. Of course, you also can upgrade to Windows 11, too, if your system supports it, which is still rolling out as a free upgrade.
