Microsoft Teams is finally adding support for a new call transfer capability that lets users seamlessly move their calls between different devices. The Microsoft 365 roadmap listing indicates that the feature is rolling out to all Teams desktop and mobile clients globally.
This new Calling experience builds on top of the meeting transfer functionality that debuted in the desktop version of Teams last year. The endpoint transfer capability lets users transfer an ongoing Teams call (i.e., PSTN, VoIP, or group call) across devices or add a second device to an active call. The feature has been designed for hybrid work, which provides a seamless calling experience without any drop in call quality or service.
To try out this feature, users will need to be logged in with the same account on both devices. While they are in a call on one device, open the Microsoft Teams app on the second device. Users will see a banner at the top of the screen notifying them that the call is in progress on another device and asking if they want to join/transfer it to the second device.
As usual, the call transfer experience is rolling out gradually, and it’s may not be available for everyone. It comes in handy when a presenter is in a call on their laptop but wants to share some content from their phone or tablet, and it will help to improve the calling experience in Microsoft Teams. In case you missed it, Microsoft Teams on Mac has also added support for native macOS notifications.
