Microsoft has quietly announced that the Windows 10 Timeline feature will drop support for history sync for personal Microsoft accounts in July. The company announced the change in a support page spotted by Windows Latest, where the company made it clear that Timeline and all your local activity history will remain on Windows 10.
“Starting in July 2021, if you have your activity history synced across your devices through your Microsoft account (MSA), you’ll no longer have the option to upload new activity in Timeline. You’ll still be able to use Timeline and see your activity history (information about recent apps, websites and files) on your local device. AAD-connected accounts won’t be impacted,” the company explained on the support page.
Microsoft announced a month ago that Timeline would lose its syncing capabilities for personal Microsoft accounts, and the change went live in the build 21359 for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. At the time, the Windows Insider team emphasized that users could still see recent web activities in the History menu of Microsoft Edge and other browsers, while the Office and OneDrive apps could also display recently used files.
Windows Timeline was one of the main new features that came with the Windows 10 April 2018 Update three years ago, but it probably never reached its full potential. Microsoft added Timeline support to the Microsoft Launcher on Android, but the Android Launcher dropped the integration back in September.
