Looks like Microsoft is trying to steal the spotlight from Google, as a new social media site from the company was accidentally revealed. Microsoft’s new social media site, Tulalip, was accidentally revealed and appears to be a “social search” service by the company.
“With Tulalip you can Find what you need and Share what you know easier than ever”, reads a message on the Tulalip homepage. This was discovered by chance when an eager techie decided to see who owned the domain of socl.com.
Tulalip was eventually taken offline once the site began receiving hits. Microsoft issued a statement regarding the site. “Socl.com is an internal design project from one of Microsoft’s research teams which was mistakenly published to the web. Thanks for stopping by. Socl.com is an internal design project from a team in Microsoft Research which was mistakenly published to the web. We didn’t mean to, honest.” See Microsoft’s message on the site here.
Before it was taken offline, Tulalip was in an early stage of development and was pretty much nonoperational. For those wondering what the heck “Tulalip” means, its the name of an Indian tribe located near Redmond.
It would be interesting to see Microsoft’s take on a social media website, especially since Google+ re-entered the game not too long ago with Google+.
