Microsoft has officially announced the availability of its new native ARM64 Teams app for Windows 10 on ARM. Bill Weidenborner, a Senior Product Manager at Microsoft, confirmed that users can now download the ARM64 version of the Teams desktop app from the Microsoft Teams website.

The new Teams app, which was leaked earlier this month, has been updated and optimized for all ARM-based devices such as Surface Pro X. The version number of the app appears to be 1.3.00.27972 at the time this article goes live. It is identical to the Microsoft Teams app already available on Windows and macOS as well as via web browsers.

It is important to note that users with devices that are running the 32-bit version of the Teams desktop app under emulation on Windows on ARM will now be automatically updated to the new version of Teams. Microsoft says that “no action is required” at users’ end to get the automatic update.

Some users confirmed on Reddit and Teams UserVoice website that the newly compiled version has dramatically improved the app’s reliability and performance on their ARM devices. Since Microsoft has now made its Teams app available on every major platform, we should expect more apps to be recompiled for the ARM64 architecture.
