As more and more employees started to work from home amid coronavirus pandemic, people are using remote collaboration tools to communicate with each other. Notably, more than 44 million people are now using Microsoft Teams and the remote workforce is generating over 900 million calling minutes per day.
To accommodate the need for more people to work from home, Microsoft has announced its plans to increase the size from 5,000 to 10,000 users by the end of next month (via Petri.com). However, the company plans to complete the worldwide deployment by the end of May 2020. Here’s how Microsoft explains the change in Microsoft 365 roadmap document:
We are raising the upper limit on individual team membership from 5,000 to 10,000 users. We are excited for this increase in team membership to power collaboration and process scenarios especially for large teams and organizations that rely on firstline workers.
It is worth noting that the org-wide teams are currently restricted to less than 5,000 members, so it remains to be seen if the new limit will apply to them as well. Do you think that the increased limit is enough to accommodate the needs of millions of Microsoft Teams users? Sound off in the comments section below.
