Popular media streaming service, Plex, just released a new build for its Windows app. With the new update, Plex is making it so that their application is universal for all Windows devices, mobile and desktop. For an app that’s focused around giving its users a single stream of media for all their devices, this new addition to its user interface is a huge help.
This new build of the Plex app is in beta, so you may encounter a few bugs while you’re seeing what the new interface has to offer. That being said, the suite of Plex features (With the exception of things like Vevo music videos, film trailers, and mobile sync, which need to be purchased with their premium service) should be available to everyone when they pick up the new and improved application.
The new direction for the Plex app not only marks a shift in the way that the people at Plex handle their user experience, but it also serves as another proof of concept for Microsoft’s work towards creating something cohesive across all of its devices. Hopefully, other third party developers start to embrace this design philosophy soon.
