The TV streaming app, TVPlayer is coming to Windows Phone and plans have also been announced to bring it to consoles, which could possibly include Microsoft’s Xbox One.
TVPlayer is currently available on iOS, Android, PC and smart TVs and allows the streaming of up to 55 free-to-air live television broadcasts in the UK through a free, ad-supported business model. A new premium model will be launching soon though, which will include additional 25 channels such as Lifetime, History, Gold, Discovery Channel and Cartoon Network for a monthly fee of £4.99 a month.
The app is apparently quite popular in the UK and its absence on the Windows Phone platform has been lamented ever since its iOS and Android launch which is a story that should sound familiar to many Windows Phone owners who have longed for app parity between the three major smartphone ecosystems. If launching on Xbox One, TVPlayer will join a growing collection of media streaming apps already on the platform such as HBO GO, Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll, YouTube among numerous others.
