Fortnite Battle Royale is the latest game attempting to offer cross-platform gameplay, but is hitting some snags. As noted by a Kotaku report, Microsoft alleges that Sony is blocking cross-platform play between Playstation 4 and Xbox One gamers. Microsoft is the first company that has been touting cross-platform play, specifically between its own Xbox and Windows 10 platforms, and more recently, the Nintendo Switch.
Fortnite Battle Royale is one of the first opportunities for Xbox and Playstation gamers have been able to play against each other and it is a shame that Sony is blocking the cross-platform gameplay. Epic Games announced the ability to play Fortnite cross-platform on Xbox One too just a couple of days ago.
Kotaku was able to get an official comment from a Microsoft representative on Sony’s current cross-platform stance:
“Microsoft has long been a leading voice in encouraging the adoption of cross-platform play and the potential of connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles. We’ve worked closely with Nintendo to allow cross-network play between Xbox One and Switch and our offer to do the same with PlayStation players still holds. For any other questions regarding ‘Fortnite’ cross-network play between Xbox and PlayStation, please reach out to Epic or Sony directly.”
Neither Sony or Epic have made any official comment on the matter, so Xbox and Playstation gamers will remain separate on Fortnite Battle Royale for now.
