This morning Microsoft announced that Symantec Corp will be using the power of Microsoft Azure to deliver Norton consumer products to 50 million customers. The announcement is part of Symantec’s initiative to move to “hybrid cloud strategies” and “increase operational efficiencies.”
Symantec Corp is a leader in the cybersecurity industry, and with the new initiative, the company looks to reduce operating costs, as well as protect millions of its customers. Working together with Microsoft, the company also designed and developed new cloud services and migrated 105 critical consumer digital safety capabilities to Azure, including security telemetry and advanced threat protection.
Scott Guthrie, executive vice president of Cloud and Enterprise at Microsoft, remarked on the partnership.
“Symantec and Microsoft share a commitment to online security, and it’s exciting to work with Sheila and team to harness the power of the cloud to extend this ongoing effort…This demonstrates how Azure is uniquely able to handle the biggest, most demanding cloud services in the world.”
More is planned in the months ahead, and Microsoft will be working with Symantec to bring it’s e-commerce system to Azure, eventually streamlining the way customers can purchase Norton software. There are also plans for Symantec to use the Microsoft Cloud for internal information services, such as Azure Container Services, machine learning.
