Microsoft Edge is slowly but surely becoming a solid web browser on Windows 10 PCs, but one of its biggest drawbacks remains the lack of a huge library of quality extensions. Thanks to five recent additions though, there are now 40 Edge extensions available on the Windows Store and some of them are quite interesting (via SuperSite for Windows).
The first one is Moderator toolbox for Reddit, which brings many features and functionality for Reddit moderators including Toolbar Shortcuts, User Notes and notifications for new moderator mails or items.
Next, there is Give as you Live Donation Reminder, an extension that allows you to support 200,000+ charities in the UK when shopping with over 4,000 stores including Amazon, eBay and Booking.com.
For web developers, the Magic CSS extension will give you a live preview of your CSS/LESS code with an in-page editor, with all your written code being saved in your browser’s local storage at site level.
Office 365 users may also try Flyview for SharePoint and Office 365 sites, a dynamic navigation plugin that makes it easier to explore and search sites, libraries, lists, documents, setting options and more.
Lastly, Enhancer for YouTube will improve your user experience on the popular video sharing website. The extension includes many advanced features such as custom themes, a better cinema mode, the ability to control volume level and playback speed with the mouse wheel and more.
Overall, Microsoft has been making slow progress since Edge extensions became available with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, and the company previously acknowledged that Edge usage is still pretty low. For now, the new web browser seems to suffer from the same chicken and egg problem that previously affected Windows Phone: there are too few extensions to attract consumers, and usage is too low to attract developers. However, that could well change if consumers start to embrace Windows 10 S, the locked down version of Windows 10 that doesn’t support third-party web browsers.
