Microsoft has rolled out an update to the OneDrive app for Windows Phone, as well as rival platforms Android and iOS, as part of the company’s initiative to make the cloud service be the one place for everything in your life. The update adds several new features across all three platforms.
Interestingly enough, in Microsoft’s blog post, the company first detailed the new features to the Android app, followed by the iOS app and finally the Windows Phone app. We’re going to do it the right way and start off by talking about the Windows Phone app update.
OneDrive for Windows Phone now features the ability to access your OneDrive recycle bin access, as well as a number of bug fixes. This update rolled out last week and makes it easier for you to recover any item you accidentally deleted while on the go.
OneDrive for Android received an update, which began rolling out today, allowing you to access both your personal and work accounts. “This is the first example of how we’re creating a single, unified OneDrive experience that holistically addresses what people, businesses, and IT managers need. Because people are increasingly using the same devices and apps to get things done at work and at home, the ability to store and share files in the cloud is essential on both fronts,” Microsoft explained.
Those who have the OneDrive app for Android can easily access their personal or work files, easily share those files with family members or co-workers, and more. The app also clearly separates your work account and your personal account, so you don’t accidentally backup your controversial personal images to your work account. The app also supports setting up a PIN so your accounts can remain secure.
The app for iOS also received an update, adding a new, native search experience. Users can swipe down in the app to reveal a search box and find what you need quickly. The app also features an All Photos view, which is a beautiful and easy way to see all your photos from across your OneDrive accounts.
The app for Android received the biggest improvements and features and Microsoft plans to roll out those improvements to the Windows Phone and iOS apps at a later date.
