Huawei is not planning to launch a Windows Phone anytime soon, the company’s head of consumer business group, Richard Yu told Wall Street Journal in an interview.
Talking about company’s transition from being just a telecom equipment supplier to a full-fledged mobile maker, and how has it been faring out for it, one thing was clear: Huawei does not intend to try any operating system but the massively successful Android.
The company which has previously made the Ascend W1 and the Ascend W2 powered by Windows Phone doesn’t find the operating system lucrative enough. It finds that it is hard for them to convince people to buy a Windows Phone. This might be the reason why it hasn’t yet released the Ascend W3 which was rumored to be showcased at the CES event earlier this year.
“We have tried using the Windows Phone OS. But it has been difficult to persuade consumers to buy a Windows phone. It wasn’t profitable for us. We were losing money for two years on those phones. So for now we’ve decided to put any releases of new Windows phones on hold. We have worries about Android being the only option, but we have no choice”, said Yu.
Coming at a time when several new hardware partners have inked deals with Microsoft to produce Windows Phones, Huawei seems to be ditching the growing mobile operating system.
