As you likely know by now, Microsoft recently released a Desktop App Converter which enabled Windows developers to port their traditional Win32 apps to the Windows Store. While many developers have already embraced Microsoft’s project, the Redmond giant itself is reportedly set to do the same and use its own converter to release the Office suite of products to the Windows Store (via MSPU)
Though the report is unconfirmed, MSPU indicates that Microsoft is planning to release full Office apps to the Windows Store sometime after the release of the Windows 10 Creators Update. Additionally, because of this, Microsoft reportedly also will focus less on Office Mobile apps, though they will release updates on a monthly basis.
Again, we can not confirm these reports for ourselves, so it’s best to take it with a fine grain of salt. However, given that Microsoft’s upcoming lightweight version of Windows dubbed “Windows 10 Cloud” reportedly only runs apps from the Windows Store, the move would make sense. Microsoft, nonetheless, has done something similar in the past with Windows RT and had released a version of Office 2013 just for the mobile ARM-based operating system.
