When Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop earlier this year, the company explained that consumers buying the first Windows 10 S PC would be able to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro for free through the end of the year. Those who miss this offer will have to pay $49 to upgrade and get access to the massive library of Win32 apps available on full Windows 10.
If you thought Microsoft didn’t give Surface Laptop owners enough time to figure out if Windows 10 S really suits their needs, this limited time offer has just been extended to March 31, 2018. Microsoft announced the news today along with the availability of the Surface Laptop in more markets and additional colors. “We hope this provides increased flexibility for those people searching for the perfect back-to-school or holiday gift,” explained Raphael Aquino Jose, Surface Senior Product Marketing Manager.
As Windows 10 S is still brand new, Microsoft probably has more work to do to educate consumers about this new SKU, and avoid the confusion caused by WindowsRT five years ago. Still, if you purchase the premium Surface Laptop today (or any Surface product), we guess that you probably know exactly what you’re getting. Microsoft may market the Surface Laptop as the perfect device for students, but it will likely appeal more to Surface and Microsoft fans for now.
