November 2013 has come to a close and its now time to take a look at how well Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system has fared in terms of market share for the month. According to new data from NetApplications, Windows 8 now holds a market share of 6.66% while Windows 8.1 holds a share of 2.64%.

Microsoft rolled out the Windows 8.1 update on October 17th, which was a free update to Windows 8 users. So it comes as no surprise that we are beginning to see a larger market share for Windows 8.1 this time around. As of November 2013, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 both account for a 9.3% combined share.

This 9.3% combined share is actually only slightly higher than the previous month’s 9.25% combined share. In the previous month, Windows 8 held a 7.53% share while Windows 8.1 held 1.72%. In other words, Windows 8 market share dropped while Windows 8.1’s market share increased, yet the combined share saw a minimal increase.

Windows 7, on the other hand, actually saw an increase in market share from 46.42% for the month of October to 46.64% for the month of November. Windows XP maintains its second place position with a 31.22% share.

It is nice to see that Windows 8.1 is beginning to see an increase in market share as the months go by. Lets hope it continues increasing.
