Rumor: Lumia 940 won't make an appearance at IFA 2015, New Lumia devices to Launch on September 24th

Microsoft confirmed the company is holding a press conference on September 4th at IFA 2015 in Berlin, Germany. Nick Parker, corporate vice president, OEM Division, Microsoft, will deliver a keynote titled “Windows 10 Lights up New Devices” and will announce a number of tablets, 2-in-1 PCs and other Windows 10 related devices. There’s no mention of smartphones with speculation going around that Lumia 940 will make an appearance at the big event.

However, it seems that’s not the case. According to a new report from MobileBurn (via WMPU), citing their source within Microsoft’s UK advertising team, we’ll not see any Windows 10 Mobile handset at IFA 2015 in Berlin. New tablets will see the light of the day at the event, and the company will talk more about Windows 10 and how it works on other laptops and PC equipment.

As for the new Windows 10 Mobile devices, Microsoft will separately hold an event on September 24th where the company will launch Windows 10 Mobile officially, alongside five new Lumia devices, including the Lumia 940 and 940 XL, as per the source of MobileBurn — that’s a big news, we’ll see a handful of new Lumia devices in the second half of the year. Previously, the well-reputed Evan Blass, popularly known as @evleaks, also mentioned that he knows of six new handsets running Windows 10 Mobile.

A new range of Lumia smartphones will definitely come as a good news for Windows Phone fans across the globe. However, it’s likely that most of these devices will be mid-range offerings from the software giant, except the Lumia 940 and 940 XL.

Microsoft is set to launch Windows 10 on July 29th after which the complete focus will be on the mobile variant of the operating system. Stay tuned to WinBeta, we’ll update you as soon as we get any other information about the upcoming Lumia handsets.
