Microsoft says Xbox 360 Marketplace will close May 2023…then says it won’t

Confusion surrounds the fate of the Xbox 360 Marketplace after it was announced that it would be shuttered in May 2023.

The message was posted on the U.S. version of the Xbox Support page. The message, which has since been removed, stated:

We will be closing the Xbox 360 Marketplace over the next year, so we encourage you to purchase any 360 games or DLC by May 2023.”

This after it was announced earlier this week that dozens of Xbox 360 games were being delisted starting February 7th.

However, Gematsu has reported that a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to them that the message was posted in error, and that the Xbox 360 Marketplace will not be shutting down this year.

So it looks like those who still purchase digital games and add-ons on their Xbox 360 can rest easy, at least for the time being. Although the news of an Xbox 360 Marketplace closure would not have been too surprising had it been correct, with Nintendo’s Wii U and 3DS online shops also being shuttered later this year.
