This past week was filled with stories on Windows 10 and chances are you probably missed an important piece of news. Let’s take a look back at the week in a feature we like to call, “Windows 10 for phones news recap.”
A video of an unreleased version of Windows 10 for phones is making its way around the web. The video includes a look at universal Office, Spartan, the Windows Phone Store, and more. You can check out the video here.
On Tuesday, April 21st, Microsoft released Windows 10 for phones build 10052 for fast ring participants. This build is a minor update to build 10051 (released a week prior) and addresses bugs. So what’s new in build 10052?
- Flight mode can now be enabled.
- You can now disable data connections.
- We fixed the bug in which your phone’s MMS settings were lost after upgrading from Build 9941.
- We fixed the issue in which you couldn’t download keyboards for additional languages.
- We fixed the issue where the viewfinder in the Camera app gets composed incorrectly on some devices like the Lumia 1020.
According to Microsoft, certain proud owners of the Lumia 640 will be unable to install the Windows 10 for phones Technical Preview on their devices. This is apparently due to a bug with Windows Phone 8.1 on the affected devices. No word yet on a fix.
At the Hong Kong trade fair, a mysterious new smartphone was spotted at Elephone’s booth. The handset in question will apparently come with eye-popping 2K display, 4GB of RAM, a 20.7MP camera for photos and videos and Intel SoC (system-on-a-chip), making it the company’s first smartphone to move away from MediaTek’s processors. Furthermore, it will come with Android, as well as Windows 10 as its operating system out of the box. There’s no word if it will be a dual-OS device, or two devices running different operating systems.
Relatively quiet news week for Windows 10 for phones, but with Microsoft’s Build 2015 developer conference taking place in just a few days, we expect to hear a lot more. Stay tuned!
