Windows 10 for Phones download now available

Today will be full of news about the Windows 10 Technical Preview for mobile devices. Unfortunately Windows Insiders with the highest end Lumia phones will not be part of today’s update. Microsoft’s support page for the Technical preview has a list of supported devices. They are the Lumia 630, 635, 636, 638, 730, and 830. Notable phones not mentioned are the Lumia 930, 1520, and Icon.

There’s a chance that Microsoft may add more phones to the list over time but for now only some mid-range phones are supported.  The Technical Preview to be fair is exactly that, a preview, and may cause damage to a phone if it was forced onto it before it was ready. Windows 10 isn’t a simple update and it’s worth having customers wait rather than bricking their phones. We’ll have to take a wait and see approach when it comes to higher end phones receiving the preview.
