Education app Solaro arrives on Windows 8.1, deploy tests and e-learning programs

Solaro, a popular education app on iOS and Android, is now available in the Windows Store for Windows 8.1 devices. The Solaro mobile app is a fantastic app that provides kids from 3rd grade up to 12th grade with learning resources for Math, Science, and English. On top of that, the developer behind Solaro is migrating their backend to Microsoft Azure.

“Get the help you need in math, science, and English language arts for grades 3-12 with Solaro Mobile. The Solaro digital study guide features full class lessons and test prep quizzes aligned to the curriculum of all 50 states in the U.S. (including Common Core) and Ontario, BC, and Alberta in Canada,” the app description reads.

Solaro, which stands for Student Oriented Learning, Assessment, and Reporting Online, is a learning resource that covers various topics including Math, Science, and English. Castle Rock, the developer behind Solaro, wants to take advantage of Microsoft’s massive install base and the dominant use of Windows in schools.

Teachers can use Solaro to manage lessons and create assignments, while students can use it as a ‘virtual tutor’ to access lessons and practice tests or create notes and flash cards. Castle Rock works with national distributors and retail partners to provide published companion materials that complement Solaro,” Microsoft stated.

Castle Rock is also migrating their backend to Microsoft Azure to take advantage of greater scalability. Currently, they are on Ruby on Rails and .NET running on Amazon and Heroku cloud platform-as-a-service (PaaS). Solaro already has a major presence in school districts across the US, Canada, thousands of schools in India, and soon in Europe.

The app provides a Live tile that displays students’ assignments or quizzes, as well display the students’ last grade received on a test. The app also utilizes Snap mode for multitasking. The app features full lessons, practice quizzes, and built-in study tools.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Solaro app to Windows 8.1! This is just the beginning and we’ll be adding more great features over time, so stay tuned,” the developer stated. In order to use the app, you are required to have a Solaro account. You can snag the app via the download link below.
