The next-gen update for The Witcher 3 has finally arrived. The update rolled out on Tuesday across various platforms, with the Xbox Series X|S and Windows versions launching late afternoon. The update is one of the most anticipated gaming events of 2022, despite being for a seven year old game. What’s included in the update? Read on to find out.
Graphics/Performance improvements
- 60fps for the first time on consoles
- Ray tracing (with lower framerate)
- Enhanced textures and shadow quality
- Improved draw distances
Photo Mode
The new Photo Mode allows players to capture the stunning scenery of the Continent. This feature will add a whole new dynamic to the game for many players, especially those with a photographer’s eye.
Netflix series tie-ins
- There is an alternative appearance for the character Dandelion inspired by the Netflix show, as well as a Nilfgaardian Armor set.
- The new quest In the Eternal Fire’s Shadow is inspired by the show.
Other improvements
There are also several quality of life improvements to be had in The Witcher 3 next-gen update. Among them are the ability to pause during cutscenes, and a quick sign-casting feature that makes casting magic a breeze. And a slow-walk feature for controller users makes navigating the game world more friendly than ever.
There are a host of other smaller changes as well—far too many to go into here. You can find the full patch notes via the link at the beginning.
