Windows Store: 175,190 total apps and the top free and paid apps and games for Windows 8.1

As of October 19th, there are 175,190 apps in the Windows Store (worldwide). Due to the removal of misleading apps, the total count has increased slightly, going from 170,000 apps in July to 175,000 apps in October.

For those that did not know, back in August, Microsoft revealed that more than 1500 apps were being removed from the Windows Store. These weren’t just any apps. In fact, these apps that were removed were considered fake or misleading. This was a part of Microsoft’s new effort in cleaning up the Windows Store, after complaints of fake apps had increased.

So it makes perfect sense that the app count in the Windows Store is slowly increased as the months go by. With that being said, let’s take a look at the top five free and paid apps in the Store right now.

The top-five free apps are Facebook, Netflix, Google Search, The Weather Channel, and Skype. The top-five paid apps are Plex, Player for MKV, KVADPhoto+ Pro, DVD for Windows, and MyRadar Weather Radar.

The top-five free games are FIFA 15 UT, Asphalt 8 Airborne, Microsoft Solitaire Collection, Cars Fast as Lightning, and Despicable Me Minion Rush. The top-five paid games are Halo Spartan Assault, GTA San Andreas, Modern Combat 5 Blackout, Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+, and Fruit Ninja.

Let’s take a look at some of these top apps and games:

  • Player for MKV – Player for MKV designed the way, so you never need to install additional codecs to watch the video. The App will allow you to play MKV video files, as well as some others media formats.
  • KVADPhoto+ Pro – An app that is utilized by both amateur and professional photographers who seek simple, but powerful image processing on-the-go. Users can turn their devices into a fantastic photo editing studio that allows them to mix operations, clips and effects.
  • DVD for Windows – This app allows you to play files from DVD drive, and even a set of popular audio and video formats. However, it does not support DVD-menus. You will need to open the files directly from the disk.
  • MyRadar Weather Radar – MyRadar a fast, easy-to-use, weather application that displays animated weather radar around your current location, allowing you to quickly see what weather is coming your way.
  • FIFA 15 UT – Experience authentic football with real players, real teams, and real leagues. Feel the excitement of every pass, strike, and tackle with new touch controls
  • Cars Fast as Lightning – Race and play as popular Cars characters with fast, nitro-charged, turbo-boosted racing! Then build your own Radiator Springs, home of Lightning and his buddies! This is your time to shine and be as fast as Lightning!
