Microsoft has announced that it is now enhancing both the meeting and collaborating experiences on Teams Rooms on Android with a host of new capabilities. You can access all these features by upgrading to Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android update 3 (App version:1449/1.0.96.2022120503). Here’s what you need to know about this update:

\n

First, is the newly added Whiteboard button on the home screen which lets users launch the Microsoft Whiteboard app quickly. This goes a long way because you get to collaborate and create without causing any hindrances that might affect the flow of the Teams meeting.

As you might already be aware, whenever you wanted to make use of the app on Teams Rooms on Android, it has to be in a Teams meeting context which also required you to factor in some prep time. This is no longer the case because you can use the app outside the meeting and make preparations accordingly. You admin can enable this feature by checking the Allow initiate Whiteboard box in the device’s settings.

\n

Next, users can easily switch from a local collaboration experience to an online co-creation space easily. All you need to do is tap on the Start meeting button on the local whiteboard screen. “Start meeting quickly kicks off an ad hoc meeting and automatically presents the whiteboard you started on the home screen onto the meeting stage for you,” says Microsoft.

At this point, you can include remote participants in the meeting where they can collaborate and contribute across the same whiteboard in real time. With this new update, you’ll be able to see remote participants side by side with Microsoft Whiteboard using the Content + Gallery layout rather than having to pick between viewing the gallery or the whiteboard shared.

\n

Furthermore, the company has redesigned the share menu and Microsoft Whiteboard support for resource accounts with the aim of making content shared during meetings more accessible. Now, whenever you tap on the Share button in the meeting control bar, you’ll be able to access all content options that can be shared in one place. This includes Microsoft Whiteboard.

\n

And finally, Microsoft is incorporating new touch screen support which will let you control the room system using the touch display at the front of the room and the touch console. This will in turn make it easier for one to operate a Teams Room with a device that is in close proximity. What’s more, the meeting experience on large-screen devices has been enhanced with 4K display support. Your admin can enable this feature by activating the Enable touch screen controls setting on the device.

\n

Besides these features, Microsoft has also indicated that it has “enriched” hybrid meetings by adding chat notifications. The update also features support for remote camera pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) controls from a desktop. In related news, Microsoft added community features to Teams.
