Microsoft’s Snap Assist feature on Windows 11 to get “Snappier” with AI

At the beginning of this year, there were indications that Microsoft was busy at work and looking to make its Snap Assist feature smarter on Windows 11. It was further disclosed that the company was looking to achieve this by incorporating AI capabilities into the feature that would in turn introduce new smart snapping features.

The new smart snapping features included recall snap layouts and OCR technology. More information pertaining to these enhancements has now surfaced, which could be an indication that Microsoft could be getting ready to ship these features to general availability via a future update.

👀 Signs of the smart(?) snap assist suggestions feature are starting to pop up in Insider builds! 23435 includes a somewhat functional version of the feature in both the snap bar and regular snap flyout. Seems to (kinda) work.

Windows sleuth Zac Bowden reports that feature an early version of the feature has been unearthed in Windows 11 preview build 23435. He has further indicated that the feature is closely linked to the snap layouts interface which pops up when you drag an app window to the top of the screen.

What’s more, aside from the snap layouts that are presented in the interface, a new row of smart layouts has also been introduced. These smart layouts will reportedly feature extra apps that Windows presumes you’d like to have snapped together.

Of course, this will be based on how you interact with apps and the layouts you often organize them in. Therefore, it will now be easier to snap apps together rather than having to navigate through your Windows snapping one app at a time.

However, PhantomOcean3 on Twitter, who’s well known for uncovering hidden features in Windows 11 builds has highlighted that the snap suggestions feature doesn’t work properly in the snap bar. He further noted that it does work well in the snap layout though it’s a bit buggy.
