Rawer app for Windows Phone 8.1 lets you edit your RAW images on your Lumia device

For those of you who are not familar, RAW (DNG) images are unprocessed files, similar to film negatives. You are able to capture the pure visual detail and characteristics of a photo without any image compression or processing, useful for those who love to manipulate an image to their liking.

Windows Phone devices are known for their cameras, especially the 41MP Lumia 1020 and the 20MP Lumia 1520. Now you can capture images in RAW (DNG) format on your Lumia 1020, Lumia 1520, Lumia 930, Lumia 830, and Lumia Icon.

Typically, the process of editing and processing RAW files on a computer requires special software – like Adobe’s Photoshop. Thankfully, with the Rawer app, you can easily adjust colors, tones, sharpness, and more after capturing the photo on your Lumia smartphone.

“To shoot in raw format, select the “DNG Capture mode” under Nokia Camera settings. For example, in Lumia 1020, you will find three options; JPEG (5 MP), JPEG (5 MP + 34 MP) and the JPEG (5MP) + DNG (34 MP). Select the latter and you are set to capture photos in RAW mode. Please be forewarned that RAW images take up more space as compared to a regular JPEG image,” Microsoft explains.

The app lets you see the before and after of your photo, so you can compare your changes to the original image. You can also see the EXIF info such as camera details, image settings as well as date and time information.

The app is free, and the paid version allows you to adjust contrast, brightness, exposure, saturation, sharpness, hue, etc., for $1.99. This app is sure to be useful for those of you enjoy photography on your Windows Phone device.

Hit the download link below to snag the app. This app will work on the Lumia 830 once the upcoming Lumia Camera update is made available.
