Microsoft hopes to release custom backgrounds for Teams “within a quarter”

Microsoft Teams is a popular collaboration tool that lets you communicate with others who are working from a remote location. Microsoft regularly adds new features and capabilities to improve the platform, and for those of you use Teams regularly for video calls, the app can already blur your background so you don’t have to clean up your Office.

If blurred backgrounds are probably really useful for all Teams users currently working from home, the ability to set custom background during video calls has been one of the most-requested features by Microsoft Team users. Microsoft first announced the feature in March 2019, which is currently only available for Microsoft employees, but this should change very soon.

Indeed, the Redmond giant has confirmed yesterday on the Microsoft Teams user voice forum that the feature should roll out to Teams users within the next 3 months (via MSPoweruser). “The increase in votes recently has been noticed. We are working on this feature and are hoping to release within a quarter. We’ll share more updates as we get closer to the release,” wrote Teams Engineering employee Alex.

As the remote workforce increased drastically during the last couple of months, people are looking for tips to improve their efficiency. If you’re on the same boat, do check out our Work from home guide for video conferencing with Microsoft Teams.
