June update for Xbox One to add real names, external drive support, new SmartGlass features

Beta testers have been trying out external drive support for Xbox One for a few days now, and news is coming in that this is one of the features that will make it to the June Update. Users will be able to connect a maximum of two external hard drives to their console.

Each of the drives needs to be a USB 3.0 device and have a capacity of 256GB or greater. As well as providing extra storage locally, it is being suggested that the external drives could be moved between consoles to save having to download the same DLC more than once to use it elsewhere.

The ability to share your real name with other gamers is also set to be introduced. This will be entirely optional, but you will no longer be forced to use an odd handle in place of the moniker assign to your by your parents. When the feature comes to Xbox One, users will be able to share their real name with custom lists of people, just friends, or no one.

Xbox One users in Canada, UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy will gain access to TV and OneGuide features, and SmartGlass is in line for an update to improve the OneGuide experience as well as improving Universal Remote Control options.

Other new features to be found in the June update include notifications and achievement comparisons in SmartGlass, as well as voice control of set-top boxes through Kinect.
