How to find your lost or stolen Lumia 950 or Lumia 950 XL

There’s a neat feature in Windows 10 Mobile that allows you to find your phone in the event it gets lost or stolen. This feature is called, “Find My Phone” and it has been around for quite a while. If you are a new Lumia 950 or Lumia 950 XL owner, follow these steps to ensure you can find your missing phone or wipe it clean so no one can view your personal data.

First things first, open up the Settings app on your phone and tap on Update & Security. Go into Find My Phone and turn on the two options available. The first option saves your device’s location periodically so it’s easier to find, even if you have location turned off. The second option saves your device’s location every few days.

At this point, you can also enable Reset Protection, which is an extra layer of protection allowing you to easily prevent someone from resetting your phone if it ends up in the wrong hands. Tap on the Turn On button and you will be prompted to enter your Microsoft Account password.

Next up, head over to windowsphone.com and sign in with your Microsoft Account, the same account you used on your Lumia 950 or Lumia 950 XL. In the drop down menu at the top right, click on your name and hit “View Account” to be taken to your account page. Tap or click on Devices on the blue nav bar and you will see the Find My Phone link. Click or tap on this link to select your phone and see where it was last seen. How cool is that?

You can ring your phone remotely even if it’s on silent, lock your phone and place a custom message on the screen, or even erase your phone completely. This is especially useful if you lost your phone or if it’s in the hands of a thief.
