Hands-on video of Lumia 530: the successor to the best-selling Windows Phone handset

Hands on video of Lumia 530, the successor to the best-selling Windows Phone handset

The Nokia Lumia 520 has been the top selling Windows Phone handset to date. Last year, Microsoft launched the Lumia 525, the successor to Lumia 520, but while the smartphone packed in more RAM — one of the very few issues with Lumia 520, it was not able to make much buzz. This brings us to earlier today, when Microsoft launched the Lumia 530.

Newer doesn’t always mean better. The Lumia 530 doesn’t really look much different, let alone better, compared to the Lumia 520 (or Lumia 525), and furthermore, it doesn’t offer better hardware specifications. In fact, the device specs have been brought down a bit. The Lumia 525 packs a gig of RAM and 8GB internal storage. In contrast, Lumia 530 only has 512MB RAM, and the internal memory has been throttled to 4GB.

“NEWER doesn’t always MEAN better”

The phone still has the same 4-inch display, with ever so slight improved screen resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. Powered by Quad-core 1.2 GHz, and coupled with 512MB RAM, the device runs Windows Phone 8.1 out of the box. The shooter still reads 5MP, and the battery too has been left untouched. The only possibly benefit is the dual-SIM capable variant that is also available.

Here’s a hand-on video of the Lumia 530. What’s your take on this? Would you prefer this over recently launched Lumia 630?
