Windows store

It’s June 16th and its Windows Store Sunday! So what does that mean? It means it is now time to take a look at the top, best, and most popular Windows 8 and Windows RT apps available in the Windows Store. We will go over some stats for the Store as well as highlight one app for your downloading pleasure. This is yet another post in our weekly feature called “Windows Store Sunday” where we highlight what’s going on with the Windows Store.

Currently in the Windows Store as of June 16th, the top five free apps in the United States based on popularity are:

  1. Xbox SmartGlass
  2. Skype
  3. Facebook Now
  4. Google Search
  5. Netflix

Let’s not forget the top five paid apps currently in the Windows Store:

  1. LCARS Interface
  2. Disney Fairies Hidden Treasures
  3. Plex
  4. 4 Elements II Special Edition
  5. Fruit Ninja

As of June 16th, there are 89,333 apps in the Windows Store, an increase of 3,380 apps in just one week. Compared to last week, the top-five free apps list has not changed! Xbox SmartGlass is still the top free app. In the top-paid apps category, we do see some changes for this week. The top paid app in the Windows Store is an app called LCARS Interface, which mimics the interface seen on Star Trek. Not surprisingly, a new Star Trek movie was recently released in theaters so this app happens to be the flavor of the week. We expect this app to be a bit popular for a while. Fruit Ninja is back on the list rounding out the top five paid apps.

For those who are curious at what the new Windows Store look will be with the upcoming Windows 8.1 update, head over to this link. We are just 10 short days away from Build 2013 and the day Microsoft is expected to release the public preview version of Windows 8.1, the next big update to Windows 8.

During this week, The Kindle app for Windows 8 and the Fresh Paint app for Windows 8 both received an update. The Kindle app saw a major update with several new features, while the Fresh Paint app saw a minor update with bug fixes. We also got to see our first glimpse at the new Xbox Music app as well as the new Weather app for Windows 8.1

Every week, we will feature one app or game that we will rank as the “top” Windows Store app for the week. It doesn’t mean that this app is better than every other app out there, it just means that this app should get your attention this week. The following week, we will showcase another great app, and so on. So here we go:

Modern web analytics

Modern Web Analytics is a free app available in the Windows Store that allows you to see your Google Analytics data in a gorgeous modern Windows Store app. Requiring a Google Analytics account, one can pin their favorite report to the Start Screen or even monitor five key data points via a Live Tile on the Start Screen.
