In just one month since its official launch, Windows 8 has sold over 40 million licenses, according to an announcement from Microsoft. Not only that, but Windows 8 is also outpacing Windows 7 in terms of upgrades. “The journey is just beginning, but I am pleased to announce today that we have sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses so far,” Microsoft’s Tami Reller, who was recently appointed as the Windows Chief Marketing and Financial Officer, stated during a presentation.

“As we pass the one month anniversary of the general availability of Windows 8, we are pleased to announce that to-date Microsoft has sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses,” Microsoft announced in an official blog post. Not only has it been a month since Windows 8 was officially launched, but it has also been nearly a month since the Windows Store has been opened. Microsoft is also proudly announcing that the Windows Store has crossed the $25,000 revenue mark and developers keep 80% of the revenue they made off downloads for the life of their app in the Windows Store. Reller didn’t reveal any specifics about Windows 8 or the Windows Store, but we do know that the Windows Store total app count is around 13,783. Reller has yet to reveal any sales data regarding the Surface RT tablet.
