How to use Cortana in Microsoft Edge – onmsft.com

Cortana is a personal assistant that can help you manage your day, stay organized and quickly access important information. Cortana works with Microsoft Edge to bring the web to life for you, delivering helpful notifications and information based on the things you care about most.

Using Microsoft Edge with Cortana means you have access to a personal digital assistant directly in your browser. With Cortana, you can search the internet without having to leave the Edge browser window. You can also use Cortana to help you fill out forms, do research by quickly finding relevant information from across your browsing history, and more.

How to turn on Cortana in Microsoft Edge

  1. Launch the Microsoft Edge browser on your device.
  2. Then, click on the ellipses at the top right side of the Window.
  3. Select the Settings option and scroll down the page to find View advanced settings.
  4. Toggle the Have Cortana assist me in Microsoft Edge button to enable the feature. turn on cortana

How to use Voice Recognition

Users can either choose to type in the search box or use voice recognition to make use of Cortana. Therefore, to use voice recognition you will have to click on the Cortana icon, which will then indicate that it is “Listening“. This is the green light for the user to start submitting verbal commands to the personal assistant.

There is also an alternative method that users can opt to use but this will require the feature to be turned on from the onset. Then, select the Cortana icon, and select the Settings option. Now, select Talk to Cortana and then toggle the Hey Cortana button to enable it.

From this point on, whenever you say Hey Cortana, the application will automatically pick up on your voice and start listening to your commands.

How to use Cortana in Microsoft Edge

Once you enable Cortana in Microsoft Edge, there will be instances where the circle icon jumps up and down on the page. this is an indication that there is a suggestion that it would like to recommend for you.

Cortana can help you to pick out places, for instance, if you want to go out for lunch, you can use it to check out the restaurant’s website, menu, and ratings. This will help you make an informed decision within a short time without necessarily having to visit the place physically.  Cortana will help you scheme through all the relevant information that you might need about a particular place.

Cortana allows users to quickly look up items and get information on web pages without having to open another tab to source the information. For instance, if you are going through a web page and come across a new word that you are not conversant with, all you need to do is highlight it and select Ask Cortana.

Shortly after, a pane will appear on the right side of the window with all the relevant information pertaining to the topic from Bing. You can therefore use it to find information about places and celebrities. It works the same way a full Bing search would.
