Less than a month after the game’s release, action-rpg Elden Ring has already sold over 12 million copies across all its platforms. The figure includes digital sales as well as ones of physical games.

While this is quite an impressive feat, the game’s runaway success is not exactly unexpected. FromSoftware’s latest effort was hotly anticipated throughout the months leading up to its late February release, with a hefty amount of buzz circulating online – especially on Twitter – surrounding the game’s promise of souls-like action set in a huge, open fantasy world conceived (at least in part) by the mind of George R.R. Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire.

While the Elden Ring’s initial launch was plagued with issues, it did not stop the game from becoming an instant hit with those who had been eagerly awaiting its release. Those issues were swiftly rectified, and the game has gone on to achieve almost universal critical acclaim to go along with those 12 million sales.

While it is not clear how many of those sales were on Xbox consoles, the game is available for both Xbox One and Series X/S, and is compatible with smart delivery; the Series X and Xbox One versions are playable across each platform.
