The top five free, paid, and trending Windows Phone apps as of May 25th

Let’s take a look at the Windows Phone Store and see which apps are at the top of the charts when it comes to the free, paid, and trending categories. You might even discover your new favorite app! After all, the Windows Phone Store is home to over 250,000 apps worldwide. 

As of May 25th, the top-five free apps in the United States are OneDrive, Facebook, Messenger, Pandora, and Instagram Beta. The top-five paid apps are Dictaphone, Theme+, Movie Maker 8.1, Start Perfect, and Metrotube. The top-five trending apps are Black, MovieJax, Sticky Notes HD, Channel 9, and Zello.

Recently, Microsoft highlighted the Windows Phone Store trends as of May 2014 and discovered that the Games category was the most-downloaded category in the Windows Phone Store. “Games continued to be the most popular category for all devices, followed by other categories with significant download share including Entertainment, Social, Music & Videos, and Tools,” Microsoft stated.

Let’s go over some of these apps below.

Black

Black (free) – “The very first B&W analog film simulator app for Windows Phone. Enhance your photos applying accurately researched and generated filters that match and make your photos look like some of the all-time best B&W analog film. Default and/or custom. Use a simple swipe to apply the film effect that goes best with your photo, or adjust it to your taste making use of the Curves, Fade and Vignette tools,” the app description reads.

Black is an app that is currently trending in the Windows Phone Store. This app is a fantastic tool when it comes to applying a black and white analog film filter to a color photograph. This app features the following film filters:

  • AGFA apx 400
  • FUJI Neopan 400
  • FUJI_FP-3000B (expired)
  • Ilford HP5
  • Kodak 400TX
  • Lomography Lady Grey
  • Shanghai GP3 100
  • Greyscale

MovieJax

MovieJax (free) – “Beautiful movies made easy for your Windows Phone. Enjoy the simplicity and ease of creating movies on your phone with MovieJax! MovieJax allows you to quickly capture and add your own video. Liven it up by adding your own photos. Add you own text, and embellish with your favorite background music before sharing with friends and family at the tap of a button,” the app description reads.

MovieJax is another free app that is currently trending in the Windows Phone Store. This app allows you to capture video, take multiple videos at once and have them added to your movie with a single tap, and the ability to edit videos with trimming and audio control tools. You can also add photos into your movie and even create a custom duration for each movie. You can add text with a custom background color, choose your own background music, and share your creation.

Sticky Notes HD

Sticky Notes HD (free) – “With Sticky Notes HD you can jot down any note or reminder that matters to you. Take unlimited notes with a unique and accurate way. No more boring notes. Notes, reminders, lists, memos, tasks, phone numbers, mails, buckets, projects, ideas or anything else you can think of,” the app description reads.

Yet another free app trending in the Windows Phone Store, Sticky Notes HD was designed with simplicity in mind. There are twenty beautiful colors to choose from and you can personalize each note, using multiple stylish theme colors. You can color-code your notes and show only specific color stickies and even adjust the notes size, alignment, order, text size, color and font.

The app features support for Live Tiles, Lockscreen background, and even the ability to set a reminder so you don’t forget!

Channel 9

Channel 9 (free) – “Windows Phone 8 application for the Channel 9 web site (accessible at http://channel9.msdn.com) provides a way to browse, rate and view videos on a variety of developer and consumer topics,” the app description reads.

The Channel 9 app is currently trending in the Windows Phone Store and is a fantastic resource for developers. This app is a must-have. 

Zello

Zello (free) – “Zello is the place for free live private and public conversations. Join millions of people who use Zello instead of texting. You can use it one-on-one with a friend, for a live group call with your family or soccer team. The Zello app can even replace two-way radios at work,” the app description reads.

Zello is an interesting app that is currently trending in the Windows Phone Store. This app touts itself as one of the best old school CB Radio style communication tools in the Windows Phone Store. You can even create a live Zello channel for your friends or customers, and even enjoy conversations from across the globe. Give it a try, you just might like it!
