If you are getting close to your renewal date for your Xbox Live Gold membership, or are thinking about purchasing it for the first time, now is a good time to pull the trigger thanks to a deal at Amazon.

Major Nelson posted the deal on twitter this morning, which lets you buy an online code for a 12-month membership to Xbox Live for $39.99, a discount of 33%. The discount is only available for the 12-month membership as an Online Game Code. So there is no discount for either physical cards or the three and seven month memberships.

The main purpose of Xbox Live Gold membership is to enable online multiplayer for your Xbox One and Xbox 360 games. But Gold members also get free titles every month under the Games with Gold program and exclusive discounts on games and add-on content through the weekly Deals with Gold. Games with Gold recently became a greater value after it was announced that all future Xbox 360 Games with Gold titles will be playable on Xbox One via backward compatibility.

For example, this month Xbox Live Gold members with an Xbox One can get not only Goat Simulator and The Crew for Xbox One, but also play Super Meat Boy and XCOM: Enemy Uknown for Xbox 360 on their Xbox One. And the weekly Deals with Gold can offer good deals on popular games, like this week’s deals of 35% off on GTA V for Xbox One, 40% off NBA 2K16, and 100% off the Battlefield Hardline Getaway add-on content.

Xbox Live Gold membership is increasingly becoming a better deal with lots of great value-adding perks. So if you know you’ll want to have access to Xbox Live Gold for the next year, now is a great time to pick up a 12-month membership.
