Skylake looks to be the CPU powering next generation of Windows 10 devices and the improvements are looking substantial. In an exclusive from FanlessTech, Intel has found a way to increase battery life and performance as well as integrating in more modern standards like Cat6 LTE, BT 4.1, worldwide GNSS, WiDi 6.0, and A4WP Wireless Charging. Windows 10 introduces new modern computing features like Windows Hello and Intel backs Microsoft up by enabling support for advanced software and hardware like 3D cameras and advancements in audio processing.
While all these improvements are nice there are still only a handful of devices which take advantage of them. Intel builds chips to run on every type of desktop and laptop so they need to support a wide range of standards. However, a device could now be built containing more advanced touch which works better with stylus interactions as well as a 3D camera, and long battery life. With the Surface Pro 3 being on the market for over a year now, the improvements with Skylake offer a substantially improved device.
There is little no doubt Microsoft has been working on the Surface Pro 4, however there remains considerable mystery around any details such as timing and specific improvements. It is not hard to assume Microsoft will use the latest Intel chipset which will be Skylake in their device, and it also isn’t hard to assume Microsoft will use the Surface Pro 4 as a hero device for Windows 10. Combining these two things, the Surface Pro 4 running Skylake should have: better battery life, faster storage speeds, more wireless capabilities (such as WiDi 6.0 and possibly wireless charging), Windows Hello camera, enhanced audio to improve Cortana, and a better touch plus pen experience. Hopefully Microsoft reveals details of the Surface Pro 4 soon and if we’re lucky, they will make it available for the holidays.
