Future Star Wars video games to fall under renewed Lucasfilm Games brand

In a bit of a surprise announcement earlier this week, the official Star Wars website and social media channels announced the revival of the Lucasfilm Games brand.

While this doesn’t seem to be the return of Lucasfilm Games as its own games studio, it does mean that most, if not all, Star Wars-related titles going forward will release under this label regardless of which studio is behind them.

Some are speculating that this could mean that Disney is planning to end their partnership with EA though there’s very little to support that theory at this stage. For now, this appears to be purely a branding change and possibly an attempt to appeal to the nostalgic gamer who grew up playing Lucasfilm Games titles.

“StarWars.com is thrilled to reveal that Lucasfilm Games is now the official identity for all gaming titles from Lucasfilm, a name that encompasses the company’s rich catalog of video games and its eye toward the future,” the announcement reads.

A sizzle reel was also released showcasing several recent Star Wars video games such as Squadrons, Star Wars Battlefront II, and Jedi: Fallen Order.

Lucasfilm Games first launched in 1982 and was rebranded as LucasArts in 1990. LucasArts was later acquired by Disney along with the rest of Lucasfilm in 2012 and was effectively shut down the following year becoming a brand name only with all video games in active development terminated.

A new Indiana Jones video game was announced this morning. This is the first new title to be revealed following the Lucasfilm Games announcement.
