YouTube Gaming users watched more than 100 billion hours of gaming content in 2020, making this year the biggest year ever. In a post on the official YouTube Blog, Head of Global Gaming, Ryan Wyatt, looks back at 2020 and what made this year the biggest year in YouTube Gaming ever.

Minecraft remains at the top of the YouTube charts garnering a staggering 201 billion views of videos related to Microsoft’s and Mojang’s kid-friendly gaming title in 2020, with Roblox trailing behind in a distant second at 75 billion views.

Rounding out the top-five most-watched games list is Garena Free Fire at the third spot with 72 billion views, followed by Grand Theft Auto V with 70 billion views. and Fortnite at the number five spot with 67 billion views. YouTube Gaming has seen more than 350 creators gained more than 10 million subscribers each in 2020, and more than 80,000 YouTube Gaming creators have added at least 100,000 subscribers. Wyatt points out how much typical gains content creators are getting on YouTube.

“Creators across the board have seen massive increases in subscribers, audiences and viewership throughout 2020. One incredible example of growth in 2020 is Minecraft content creator Dream, who saw channel subscriptions surge from 1 million in January 2020 to over 13 million by October.”

On YouTube, game-related live streams continue to grow, hitting over 10 billion hours watched. Globally, YouTube users watched over 100 billion hours of gaming content. While Twitch may still be the number one place for streaming game-related content, YouTube Gaming remains the “home for all video game content.”
