Ever since its launch last November, the Microsoft Band has been steadily receiving more features despite the wearable being brought to market as a proof of concept device. But with the Band repeatedly selling out within hours of more units becoming available, more features have been brought to the platform. Some of which include tracking bike rides and, most recently, tracking your golf outings.

The golf activity tracking, originally introduced last month, allows Band owners to: select from courses using the TaylorMade golf course finder that was built into Microsoft’s Health app; use GPS to track your progress on a hole and distance to the green; and track your strokes, notably being able to automatically distinguish between a practice swing and your actual shot.

Today, Microsoft announced the next phase of this activity mode for the Band with the official launch of myRoundPro’s integration with the Microsoft Band. The new golf tracking capabilities were announced on Microsoft’s LumiaConversations blog, with a list of the following new features:

  • Mapped shot locations
  • Fairways hit
  • Greens in regulation
  • Putts per round
  • Sand saves
  • Scoring average
  • Shot proximity to hole
  • Strokes gained

The new golf data is available for viewing in myRoundPro on the Microsoft Health web dashboard. Microsoft is also introducing five new guided workouts in the ‘Find a Workout’ section specifically for golfers. The workouts include:

  • 5-Minute Golf Warmup
  • Gold’s Gym Golf Workout
  • Beginner Golf Workout
  • Intermediate Golf Workout
  • Advanced Golf Workout

The continual addition of new features, both for health and for productivity, and the recent commitment to developing a new version, shows that Microsoft is committed to making their new wearable device a robust platform. What do you think of the current features on the Microsoft Band? Have you tried out the golf activity tracking? Let us know in the comments section below.
