Let’s face it — Microsoft upset a lot of Windows users by removing the Start menu in Windows 8. Microsoft is set to bring back both the Start menu, as well as a new Start screen with Windows 10, but the menu will not look or behave the same exact way like it did on Windows 7.
The folks over at Stardock, thinking three steps ahead, have released Start10 as a Beta, a software that emulates the Windows 7 Start menu, while offering a host of additional customization options. Start10 adds a classic or ‘enhanced’ Start menu to Windows 10, offering unified search for apps, settings, and files, as well as allowing users to access the desktop and modern apps from the Start menu. On the customization side, you can skin the Start button to your preferred liking.
Start10 gives you more than just an option to relive the Windows 7 Start menu — in fact, you can take full control of your desktop by removing the Start button, set the icon size, show or hide user pictures, and much more little customization options.
For those who do not like the direction Microsoft is taking Windows 10, at least when it comes to the Start menu, there is a viable option with Start10. As of right now, the software is in Beta and only available to existing and active Object Desktop subscription holders. A public Beta has yet to be announced.
